Healthy Planet's advocacy
We have recently signed Stop Climate Chaos coalitions' letter to Cameron and Clegg calling for them to stand behind the UK's 2008 Climate Change Act and ensure that the Enregy Bill is brought into Parliament and passed with a clear goal to decarbonise electricity generation by 2030 in line with the Act.
If you are interested in getting involved in advocacy with Healthy Planet, we would love to hear from you! Our report after COP18 last year:

Communication about climate change, global health and sustainability
Doing this effectively can be difficult, but is central to effective advocacy. Here are some links to help you get started...
It's always useful to be able to answer questions about climate change, so here's a good site to help you respond to common myths and misconceptions.

The Common Cause handbook is a guide to working with values and frames, jointly compiled by a handful of UK NGOs, including Oxfam and WWF-UK. It illustrates the real and lasting benefits that can be achieved by fostering “intrinsic” values - eg. self-acceptance, care for others, and concern for nature - and how we can use “frames” to embody them. Common cause is the argument that values and frames matter because to build a more sustainable, equitable and democratic world, we need an empowered, connected and durable movement of citizens.

The NHS Carbon reduction strategy sets an ambition for the NHS to help drive change towards a low carbon society. The strategy shows the scale of reduction in carbon required for the NHS to progress towards the Climate Change Act requirements and recommends key actions for the NHS to become a leading sustainable and low carbon organisation. There is an update to it here results of the most recent carbon footprint and surveys are here.

Fit for the Future is a report co-produced with Forum for the Future which recommends five key steps to creating a sustainable low-carbon healthcare system, ready for whatever the future may hold. The report details a set of scenarios which are designed to assist NHS leaders, managers and staff to produce longer term, more robust strategic plans. It is one of the first studies of the long-term measures required to maintain a quality health service in the face of climate change.

The UK Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC)'s Renewables roadmap sets out a comprehensive action plan to accelerate the UK’s deployment and use of renewable energy, and put us on the path to achieve our 2020 target, while driving down the cost of renewable energy over time. They also have a useful section which explains the causes and impacts of climate change here. You can read about the 2012 Draft Energy Bill here and why UKYCC's Tom Youngman's started a campaign to change it (and vote for it if you'd like to) here.

This is a chapter from an online module from healthknowledge.org.uk about advocacy in public health:
Chapter 7: Public Health Advocacy
Read about the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare's 'Sustainable Action Planning' (SAP) programme for clinical teams here. SAP is a programme to support clinical teams in taking action for sustainability. Structured around two facilitated workshops, SAP helps front-line staff to learn about sustainable healthcare, focus in on their priorities and put together a green action plan. The action plan can then be adopted into the team’s routine management processes, becoming the framework for ongoing sustainability improvements.
