Hi! I developed an interest in climate change and its effects on health in my first year, having already been interested in global health through my BSc in Biomedical Science. The health impacts of our changing environment are massive and I believe we should be doing more to get involved. At UEA, we're keen to further raise awareness and engage others through our own branch of Healthy Planet.
Chloe Poynter: Schools Project Lead
I'm a second year and I first got interested in environmental issues in healthcare through a healthy planet lecture in London. I feel we have a duty to future patients to raise awareness to health professionals about the role we play in climate change.
Luke Pedley: Treasurer I’m a second year medical student at the University of East Anglia and developed an interest in the link between health and climate change after some great lectures on the topic as part of our course. I was surprised at how much climate change directly affects our healthcare and how much it will affect how healthcare is delivered to people around the world in the future. I’m looking forward to making more people in healthcare and the wider population more aware of this link!
Nessa Whitworth: Publicity Officer
Having an interest in environmental issues from a young age, coming to university helped expand my understanding of how closely people's health and the changing environment are linked, and why they are so important. Through my role as publicity officer I hope to increase appreciation of climate change and its impact on health, and get more people involved with these key issues!
Tahmina Parveen: Co-President
I’m a second year medical student at UEA with a previous degree in Biomedical Sciences from UCL. Coming from a country such as Bangladesh which ranks as one of the countries most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change in the coming decades, I am very eager to raise awareness about the links between climate change, environmental damage and health.
Declán Murphy: Schools Project Lead
Increasing awareness to health professionals and the public is essential in forming sustainable and economically viable healthcare systems, as well as improving the health of a population. I am motivated to help raise this awareness through UEA Healthy Planet.
